Unity Park Gardeners is the name of UPAC’S Gardening Committee. We are made up of volunteers who live in the neighborhood around the Park. Unity Park Gardeners is a registered Community Garden with the Chicago Park District. Our purpose is to improve the beauty and appearance of Unity Park by maintaining the flowerbeds and increasing the variety of plants that grow and bloom there. During the growing season we clean-up the flower beds, plant perennials and annuals, pull weeds and water plants. If you are interested in receiving notices of our gardening work days, you can join our mailing list.

In 2008 and 2009 we received Grants from the Parkways Foundation to help fund our efforts. Each year we have held Park Clean-up days on Earth Day. In 2009, our Earth Day event had around 30 participants from the neighborhood. We also had help from the Chicago Treekeepers and were sponsored by the Chicago Park District and Friends of the Parks.
This Year we received donations of plants from the Chicago Park District and Wicker Park Garden Club. Our planting days were held on May 17th and 24th. We planted the area just south of the Comfort Station and the Raised Bed planters in the center of the park with many lovely varieties of plants, focusing on easy to care for perennials and annuals. Please be sure to take time enjoy our efforts!
